Customizing archive settings and log
You can configure archive settings to ensure that documents are archived together with their responses, and to keep a history of all archiving operations in all your archived applications.

Settings in the Advanced panel of the Archive Settings dialog box apply to all archives you create. To open this panel, open the application to archive (for example, your mail), and then click Actions > Archive > Settings > Advanced.

To prevent orphaned response documents

If the application has hierarchical views with "parent" and "child" (response) documents, allowing parent documents to be archived can "orphan" the responses. Responses that are not archived disappear from any hierarchical view (become orphaned) but still exist, keeping the application you're archiving larger. To prevent orphaned response documents, leave the default Delete a document only when the criteria can delete all responses as well option selected; or, if you deselect it, make sure sets of archiving criteria that include any main documents also include their responses. Examples of applications with hierarchical (response) views include discussion and mail.

Note: This option does not apply when your document selection setting is "selected by user" and you archive by using drag and drop or the menu command Actions > Archive > Archive Now.

To set up an archive log application

An archive log application contains a history of all archiving operations in all your archived applications.

1. On the Advanced panel, select Log all archiving activity into a log application.

2. (Optional) Type a new file name or path, or click the folder icon and specify or browse to a different directory than the default to save the archive or archive log.

3. (Optional) Select Include links to archived documents. Links are useful for locating documents without browsing the archive application.
