INSTANT MESSAGING

Adding or changing instant messaging options for a location
In most cases, your instant messaging Location options are automatically configured; you do not need to set them. If you need to change these options, you should first obtain the necessary information from your system administrator.

Note: The features described in this topic are available only if your company has an IBM Lotus Sametime server. The Macintosh version of Lotus Notes does not support some instant messaging features, for example, instant meetings and multiple-person chats.

Note: If you change instant messaging options for a location, the new options are valid for all future Notes sessions for that location.

To add or change instant messaging Location options, follow these steps:

1. Click File >Locations > Edit Current Location.

2. Click the Servers tab.

3. In the IBM Lotus Sametime server field, enter the server's hierarchical or host name.

4. Click the Instant Messaging tab.

5. Enter the port number for the Lotus Sametime server. The default port number is 1533.

6. Specify how often you want to send a "keep-alive" message to the Lotus Sametime server. This message checks connectivity with the server and allows you to get timely notification if you are disconnected from the server. The default interval is 60 seconds.

7. In the Connect field, do one of the following actions:

8. In the Protocol field, select the connection type: 9. If you selected Use proxy in step 9, proceed to step 11. If you selected any of the other connection types, skip to step 15.

10. Select a proxy type:

11. Enter the host name and port number for your proxy server. The default community server port number for HTTP proxies is 8082.

12. If you selected SOCKS5 in step 11, Resolve server name locally is selected by default. If your proxy server cannot resolve names, clear the Resolve server name locally check box. Contact your system administrator for more information.

13. If you selected a SOCKS5, HTTPS, or HTTP proxy server in step 11, enter a user name and password.

14. Click Save & Close.
