Sending Internet mail using Domino or SMTP
Depending on what type of Internet mail is available within your organization or from your Internet service provider (ISP), you may either use an Internet SMTP server for your outgoing Internet mail, or send outgoing Internet mail with other IBMR LotusR NotesR mail through a DominoR server. Ask your system administrator for advice.

Your Notes connection to your Internet server(s) must be set up for you to send Internet mail, and it must specify which type of server your outgoing Internet mail uses. If you use a Domino server, you send Internet mail the same way you send Notes mail.

To send Internet mail through an SMTP server

1. If necessary, switch to a location from which you can access your SMTP account.

2. Open the Replication and Sync page.

3. Click the Send outgoing Internet mail entry, and then click Actions > Replicate Selected Application. Notes sends any outgoing mail waiting in the outgoing Internet mail box (Smtp.box).

Note: You can secure your SMTP account with SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for safe transmission over the Internet. For more information, see Securing your POP3, IMAP, LDAP, or NNTP accounts.
