INSTANT MESSAGING

Showing or hiding online awareness for names
By default, names of people in mail messages, views, and folders are "online aware," that is, online status icons beside names show whether you can use instant messaging to chat with people or include them in instant meetings. If you do not want this feature, you can turn it off.

Note: The features described in this topic are available only if your company has an IBM Lotus Sametime server. The Macintosh version of Lotus Notes does not support some instant messaging features, for example, instant meetings and multiple-person chats.

Online awareness also displays in your Calendar and To Do views; in your Contacts; and in applications created from the Teamroom, Discussion, and Resource Reservations templates. In a Meeting document, for example, you can chat with the chairperson of a meeting you have accepted.

To hide online awareness, follow these steps:

1. Click File > Preferences.

2. Click User Preferences.

3. Click the plus sign next to Instant Messaging and then click the General tab.

4. Deselect Show instant messaging status for names.
