INSTANT MESSAGING

Working with instant messaging
You can use Notes instant messaging to see which of your co-workers are online and to have chat sessions with them. A chat session can be with one person (a chat) or multiple people (an instant meeting).

Note: The features described in this topic are available only if your company has an IBM Lotus Sametime server. The Macintosh version of Lotus Notes does not support some instant messaging features, for example, instant meetings and multiple-person chats.

If your Lotus Sametime server has Web conferencing capability, instant meetings can include shared applications such as audio, video, screen sharing, or a whiteboard. You can schedule these application-sharing meetings (to start right away or in the future) from your Notes Calendar. Scheduling an online meeting in Calendar allows you to repeat the meeting at regular intervals, restrict the attendance list, and secure the meeting with a password.

For information on Notes' instant messaging and Web conferencing capabilities, see the following topics.
