Connecting to a Lotus Sametime server
Connecting to the Lotus Sametime server allows Lotus Notes to communicate with Sametime. You have many options surrounding this connection, which you can change during Notes set up or at any time.

Note: The features described in this topic are available only if your company has an IBM Lotus Sametime server. The Macintosh version of Lotus Notes does not support some instant messaging features, for example, instant meetings and multiple-person chats.

There are several technologies (or protocols) that allow Notes and the Lotus Sametime server to communicate. During Notes setup, you configure your instant messaging options, which apply to all locations. In most cases you can accept the defaults. You can always add or change these options for a location, even if you deselected Setup instant messaging during setup.
